A nightcrawler

Cycle Paper #2: A Night Crawler
Its pitch black in the darkest hours of the night, she lies in bed waiting. The tension mounting with each rise of her chest as she waits for that silent call signaling her to come out and reveal herself into the darkness. It comes, and she creeps down the stairs and out of the house like a black cat, stealthy and sleek. Her walk down the street is apprehensive; these are the crucial moments, the threshold between freedom and capture. The night is still and the world is hers as she sees the gate leading her to the outside.
On the quiet road a black SUV, waiting. She's swept up into its mechanical locomotion, moving, drifting farther and farther away from what she knows. She's flying in the car with a strange yet familiar face, and he holds her fate now, all she can do is go along for the ride.
They've landed at the spot he's decided, a mass of people, waiting. She recognizes the whirls of sand; the sound of waves but the feeling isn't the same. There is no glaring sun, heated beach, or glistening bodies. It is desolate except for the faces looking down upon her. She feels alienated but there is a small comfort, the warmth of a hand on her back. It beckons her to sit in the back of SUV facing the ocean. The sea comforts her; slowly she can relax into the calm, swirling, chaos of the ocean.
A cup waiting for her, full of sweet poison, she puts the honeyed deception to her lips and forgets the world.
She's running for the water, sprinting to the free world. Naked and willing, she dives into the fluid disarray.
On the beach she is sitting next to him jeering faces moving about but they are distant and collected. He keeps her grounded and protected; there on the beach she knows she is safe.
A mutter, a gasp, and a shuffle of bodies; someone is down. She shows no concern as the body is driven away. He takes her and they fly away. Bump after bump they ride over obstacles as they leave the scene, tailed by their fear, led by their adrenalin. Here they are in the middle of nowhere going somewhere with this vehicle of emotion.
She sits there waiting, expecting him to close the distance. Time is up dawn is cracking. She leaves the car and begins her walk back to the gate shutting her in. She walks down that lonely road no one stirs, the world was hers for a night but it all disappears as she touches the door. She sucks in the sweet smell of the night and tumbles back into her life falling deeper and deeper into the comfort home.
This took one hour because I had to make it an interesting and somewhat poetic story of an escape from life. I tried to be as descriptive as possible so that the reader could really live the story. I wanted them to be asking questions throughout the story and I didn’t really reveal that much about the characters so that could make them anything and anyone. I wanted it to be like she had everything in her grasp because I feel like those are our favorite moments in our lives so I wanted to capture that feeling when you embrace freedom. Feeling free and uninhibited is something I think we all strive for and I hope I could convey the way she found that well in this story.

Documentary topics
Documentary Topic: Ethnicity
My choice for the documentary topic would be ethnicity. I myself am of two heritages, Samoan, and Caucasian and that is a big part of my life. This topic is relevant to all the people in our class because Hawaii is such an ethnically diverse place that it really does shape our lives and perspectives. People from Hawaii's perspective on race and diversity would be vastly different from people all around the world. My dual-ethnicity has played a major role in my life and identity and I'm sure it has been a big part in everyone else's lives too.
